The research I have been conducting for special event planning/production companies has continued to return one particular association to keep popping up! The International Special Events Society (also known as ISES) is a worldwide organization that has been prominent in the industry since 1987. Their mission is to
"educate, advance and promote the special events industry and its network of professionals along with related industries" (ISESDenver).
One of the highlights of ISES is the fact that it has different chapters spread out globally, with 46 of them in North America alone. I am lucky enough to have a chapter in Denver, Colorado, which makes it more possible to attend meetings with a location in my own state, because the next closest location would be in Las Vegas or Texas. ISES also has many of it's chapters on Facebook, Twitter and on LinkedIn as well which makes it easier to obtain information with having various locations online. This also allows for several locations of companies posting for job applicants, people who are looking for jobs themselves, or even people looking for specific services in their area.
As far as industry information goes, ISES allows much more information to be shared among their paid members. Although I cannot afford to do be a member at this moment (I am hoping to do so in the next couple of months, especially being they have a student membership for 2 years at a cheaper rate.) However, ISES does allow access to their blogs and groups on every platform that they provide and depending on the information you need, they also have it broken up amongst chapters or a section to where you can access all of it. Without even realizing it at the time, I had stumbled across an article from ISES for a previous blog (7DeadlySins about volunteering) but this website gives a variety of information on the industry. They post things such as social media networking and re-branding, news amongst different chapters, several wedding event articles, 20 tips to stretching your planning dollars in this economy etc... But the most important being the fact that this continues to be a growing industry that has surpassed certain challenges, such as technological advances, thus far.
I look forward to continue learning with the knowledge of ISES on my side.
